Pat RoXx arbeitete in Vergangenheit auch mit renommierten Songwritern, Künstlern, Schauspielern, Filmproduzenten und Musikverlagen weltweit zusammen. Auch für zahlreiche Crossoverprojekte begeistert sich  der 23 jährige Wahlberliner immer wieder, der sehr großen Wert auf direkten Kontakt mit seinen Fans legt. Über die bekannten Internetportale wie Twitter, Facebook steht er im täglichen Dialog mit seinen “RoXxtars”, wie er seine Fans liebevoll nennt.

Am vergangenen Wochenende drehte er auf Wunsch seiner Fans ein Musikvideo zu seinem Song “Can You Hear Me”. Eine kraftvolle Ballade mit absolutem Hitpotential und einem Sound, den man von einem deutschen Künstler so nicht erwarten würde. Am 15.5.2012 erscheint der Clip, welcher im Lux-Eleven Penthouse in Berlin gedreht wurde, auf allen Videoportalen im Internet und wird mit Sicherheit auch seinen Weg in einige Musiksender finden. Auch an einer Veröffentlichung des Songs als digitale Single via Itunes und co. arbeitet Pat RoXx zurzeit mit seinem Label “Monopol Records”.

In der fast ausverkauften o2 World Arena zeigte sich uns am vergangenen Montag ein Bild, das wir schon so lange nicht mehr erlebt haben. Kreischende Frauen von Jung bis Alt waren aus ganz Deutschland angereist um ihre Idole bei einer unglaublichen Liveshow zu bestaunen. Auch für uns war es an diesem Abend eine kleine Zeitreise zurück in die “Kindheit”, denn genau in dieser Zeit hatten die Backstreet Boys gerade ihren absoluten Höhepunkt, der scheinbar bis heute nicht abgenommen ab. Zusammen mit New Kids on The Block stellten wir uns also heute auf ein bombastisches Livekonzert ein und wurden nicht entäuscht.  Auch wenn es sich hier mal nicht um Rockmusik handelt, über die wir sonst so berichten, hatte vor allem die nur vierköpfige Liveband einen unfassbaren guten Sound herausgeholt. Wir haben selten soviel Power dynamik und groove bei einer so kleinen Konstellation gehört. Vor allem der Drummer “James Ross” überzeugte mit einem unglaublichen Feeling am Schlagzeug und verstand sein Handwerk sehr gut. Eine perfekt inszenierte Liveshow, Pyroeffekte an der richtigen Stelle und ein guter Mix aus beiden Boygroups sorgten beim Publikum für ein zweistündiges Wechselband der Gefühle. Jedoch konnte man ganz klar erkennen, dass im Direktvergleich die “Backstreet Boys” gegenüber “New Kids on the Block” ein ganz klares Heimspiel hatten und für wesentlich größere Publikumsreaktionen sorgten. Ganz besonders viel hatten auch die Securities an diesem Abend zu tun, denn beide Boybands waren bei diesem Konzert sehr fan nah und suchten mehrmals die Nähe zum Publikum und stellten sich bei einigen Fans direkt in die Menge, oder holten Fans auf die Bühne.

Wir waren sehr überrascht und hatten es auch irgendwie schon gedacht, dass den “Urgroßvätern aller Boybands” so schnell niemand den Rang ablaufen wird. Auf der anderen Seite haben wir auch wieder festgestellt, dass deutsche Künstler im Live Entertainment Segment sich hier noch sehr viel abschauen und lernen können.

Das Album geht mit der ersten veröffentlichten Single BRING ‘EM DOWN los. Sie wählen taktisch einen guten Song aus, denn der ist härter und man ist auf das ganze Album gespannt. Der Break im Song bringt mich nicht Down sonder eher voran ich will mitgehen, freu mich schon auf den ersten GIg.

Der Song A LITTLE REIMENDER THAT I’LL NEVER FORGET ist meiner Meinung nach der beste Song auf dem Album. Der Song ist peppig und hat einen guten Groove. Besonders im Chorus geht es stimmig und treibend voran.

Hier ist aber noch nicht Schluss. BETTER OFF DEAD überzeugt mit knackig gerapten Strophen und explodierenden Refrains.

Mit SOMEDAYS gönnen die Jungs uns nochmals gekonnt einen Moment Ruhe, um uns als perfekten Abschluss der Platte CANT GET ENOUGH zu präsentieren.

Im großen und ganzen klingt das Album gut und ist empfehlenswert. Lostprophets are back!

Winston McCall:  It’s been really really good. It’s actually surprising because this is the last tour for this record and you’d think by this point and time people would be like “Ahh man, we’ve seen them three times – I’ll stay at home for this one”. But we’ve been playing some of the biggest shows we’ve ever played on tour here in Europe and especially in Germany. It’s remarkable really and it’s been blowing us away.

BM: This tour has been a non-stop everyday marathon. Even without a day off can you guys find time during the day to visit the local sights of the cities you’re visiting?

Winston: We love seeing the sights and attractions here in Europe. We really try to make as much time as possible to see things while here. I think this is our seventh time in Munich now and we love coming back each time to have the local beer! We definitely plan the night before with the next day in mind…if you know what I mean. Life on tour can get pretty boring when you’re just looking at the inside of clubs! I don’t want to say I played in the south of France but only saw the backstage and my bunk in the tour bus!

BM: So again, this is the last tour from your last record. What are you guys doing different this time around besides touring with a great lineup on the bill? I guess I want to ask, if fans come who’ve seen you the previous tours – what can they from this tour compared to the previous ones?

Winston: Oh man, lots really. I guess the main thing is that we’ve mixed it up this time. We’re playing some really old shit. Material from so long ago that we even had to relearn some of it! There are even some songs we’ve never played live before from two records ago. There’s one song that’s literally the hardest we’ve ever written but the Europeans seem to love it! It’s a total shredfest and people always yell it and request but we’ve never been comfortable playing it live haha. So now – we’re doing it just for them! We also have a brand new song from our new record we’re about to record after this tour. In amongst that of course we have the “fan favorites” haha.

So far it’s been great playing a different set than we usually do. Things have been orientated towards what people want to hear in a set and it’s been working out really well. It’s much more fun than playing the same songs all the time. Man, there’s never a show that goes by where people don’t yell ‘’Carrion” for an encore. No matter what – we finish and everyone wants to hear Carrion. I can’t believe we’ve somehow had something you can call a “hit single” haha.  I don’t know how it happened! If we don’t hear them scream it then we won’t play it and that’s only happened once which is hilarious. Haha I personally think it sounds the same as everything else. Just a confusing anomaly that’s happened to us!

BM: But the trailer doesn’t state a date for its release. Is there a general time period when you think it will be released?

Winston: I don’t 100 percent know the proper release date yet, no. But we didn’t put on the trailer because the edit wasn’t completed at the time. All I can say is that you can expect an official release date now that it’s essentially done so it will be sooner rather than later. Pretty sure we have premiers booked within the next few months.

BM: So that’s still in the works and I’m sure everyone will be pumped for its release.  But what people probably are more interested in is the long awaited new record. Deep Blue was released 2 years ago now which seems like a lifetime ago. In my opinion, your original stuff has lots of fast techy guitar riffs whereas the last album was just heavy as fuck and has a better overall flow to it from beginning to end. What directions are you going in now in terms of writing style? You did this whole tour and have been through all these experiences we’ll see on the DVD, so I’m sure that must have taken your song writing to a whole new level?

Winston: Well yea, I mean it’s really a combination of everything. We never really set out with a direct idea or direction in mind like: “Yea this will be techy”. This time around, it’s the same kind of sound you’re used to but this record has more of song by song feel to it.

BM: What exactly do you mean by that? The complete record has less flow from one song to the next?

Winston: Well kinda. For example, during the writing process if we wrote a slow one we’d have the urge right away to write a heavy one– and that’s just how it goes sometimes. So we didn’t so much focus on the specific bits or the specific flow from song to song but instead we just wrote what we felt needed to be written. We were never like “we’re gonna tech the shit outa this part” or “slow this part down a lot” we just kind of tried to write songs that have a good flow to them and then build on top of that. I think the older stuff is a bit more “stoppy-starty”.  That’s the way we used to write. Our structure literally used to be: Write a bit, write another bit, now put it all together. These days we’ve strayed away from that style because we like having a catchy part and then coming out of that catchy part in a smoother way. We’ve really just improved a lot in our writing skills in the last 2 years and I think that will show. But we’ve got some really techy stuff in it and then a lot of really stripped back shit too. I don’t think the guitar work is “crazy technical” but really it’s just more intricate that previous material.  When we go into the studio we’re gonna try and layer the fuck out of it and see how much we can put in each song. Right now we have 10 songs to the level we want them to be in comparison to everything else but the idea this time around is to have them at that level and then go into the studio and put in more. So we do have ideas to work on. We’ll see how it goes!

BM: So lyrically, what kind of inspirations have you had this time around?

Winston: Oh man. Well the lyrics have always come from varied standpoints for me. The last record I tried writing in a completely different way. I did a lyrical style where I wrote from start to finish of the album. This time around it’s almost the complete opposite really.

BM: Do you have any funny stories that happened during this tour so far? Any memorable moments?

Winston: Well, I guess so yea haha. Back when we played in Birmingham in the UK and they tried to shut the show down because it got too crazy. We finished the gig and thousands of kids are there stomping their feet yelling “Carrion”. So we come back out and the stage manager is there on stage yelling at us telling us that it’s too dangerous and crazy to keep playing. By this time all the house lights are turned on and the whole crowd is just standing there and I just look at him and point to the kids and say “Look man, if you don’t let us play this one last long they’re gonna seriously freak out and cause some shit”. Anyways, we start playing and kids are just freaking the fuck out after seeing the manager yell at us onstage. Then this guy sends his security over to our sound guy and they’re trying to shut the sound boards off. By this time the kids around them see what’s happening so they jump on them and throw them off of the boards. They’re surrounding our sound guy and protecting him while we’re on stage rocking out to our last song! Then the manager of the club comes up to me saying he’s sorry but we had to shut down the show. So I look at him and tell him “Hey if you aren’t the police or the stage manager then back the fuck off- we’re doing this right now”.  We ended up getting through the whole song and right after they told us to get the fuck out the back door. Awesome show though!

BM: Man I don’t think we should say anything more about this tour because nothing can top that! Let’s talk about the new trailer for your upcoming DVD “Home is for the heartless”. There’s a quote in the trailer; “Up until this year – we thought we’d seen it all. But I guess it takes something really special to open your eyes. And for us, this was it.” What exactly are you referring to?

Winston: Well I can’t give any major spoilers buddy! But I can say that the tour was filmed for a little over a year and we wanted to film as many places as we could and at as many places that didn’t usually get shows and acts like us.  More importantly, we wanted to shoot and document the life and times of the people which lived in all these areas we played in.

BM: You mean the people and fans in some of the third world countries that went to see you guys?

Winston: Yea exactly. We filmed in 42 different countries. Man we went everywhere: to pretty much all of South America, South East Asia, China, India…the list goes on and on. Some of these places had never had shows and gigs like us before. Places like Guatemala, Ecuador, Panama – it was really surreal to play in places no bands usually go.  But wow, some of the sketchiest and most awesome shit we’ve ever done. For example, the venues were pretty bizarre sometimes. It might sound stupid but I’ve never seen a band documentary that compares to this because people don’t document the sort of places we were playing in – and that’s why we wanted to make it. Playing Guatemala and seeing the security being in bullet proof vests and being armed was pretty wild haha. It was a knarly year and it was also filmed really fucking well. We took a good friend of ours James Hartly, who’s an amazing photographer and he took great gear with him so it’s all in high definition and shot perfectly. I’m really just stoked about how it’s turned out so far.  Just the other day I saw a 99% completed version and even though I was there during the filming, it was neat to see it in high definition and relive the memories. It reminded me how awesome and out of this world the whole experience was.

BM: Meaning you’re writing lyrics to each song individually so they stand on their own?

Winston: Yea that’s exactly it. If you read Deep Blue from start to finish…it has more of a storytelling vibe. You can still take it apart song by song and understand, but overall it has a flow from the start of the album to the end. This time though – if the song is heavy and dirty, it’s just going to be fucking pissed and that’s it. The song next can immediately have a slower vibe to it and a completely different lyrical feel and delivery. So that’s kinda the way it’s working. As for the stuff I’m singing about? There’s a bunch of shit that’s affected me and the guys deeply over the last few years: being away, family stuff, friend stuff.  That happens with everyone I guess but in terms of the song writing sometimes you’ll have to wait till the end of the song to understand what it’s all about haha.

BM: You mentioned you have 10 songs almost completed now. Can you tell us about any potential guest vocalists you have in mind?

Winston: We have some great ideas yea. But we still have six and a half weeks left for writing and we definitely want more than ten songs. There are some ideas for both guest vocal and musician collaborations already and we’d really just like to go a little different from what we usually do. For example, I’m a big fan of using a guest vocalist that has a bit of a different vocal style and voice than I do. I really find that more interesting than hearing someone with the same scream or style as I have. It’s the record where we have a bunch of ideas for music that we’ve never used before so we just said “fuck it. Let’s just try anything”. We’ll go into the studio and throw rocks at keyboards and smash guitars to get sounds if we want to. So if the record works- it works. But don’t worry; you’ll have a parkway record no matter how bizarre it is haha.

BM: Yea I’m sure the fans will love it either way! I doubt it’s going to be one of those records where you release it and people go “Oh man – they sold out and went too main-stream”.

Winston: No, no it’s definitely not gonna be like that. No matter how much we “experiment” we still love the core of what we do. No matter how much we change as a band it’s just gonna get heavy and faster with time. I guess it’s just that the nuances around those core sounds and style will change in some way or form and that’s the fun thing for us.

BM: Awesome. I’m sure fans will be in for a good year with both the DVD and record coming out this year!  Alright thanks for the interview Winston and good luck with the projects and the rest of the tour!

BM: Erzähl doch mal was von dir, wer bist du, wo kommst du her und wie lange bist du schon als Modelscout tätig?
WoGu: “Geboren wurde ich 1963 in der wunderschönen Stadt Wiesbaden, in der ich heute noch lebe. Mein Name ist Wolf Gust, eigentlich genauer Wolf Rainer, aber da halte ich es lieber wie der fühere US Präsident Kennedy, der aus seinem Fitzgerald ein F. machte, also Wolf R. Gust.  Ich kam über das Fotografieren auf Konzerten  eigentlich zur People´s Photography, das war so im Jahr 2001. Den eigentlichen Kontakt zur Modelwelt bekam ich durch einen Azubi von mir.”

BM: Du meinst Christian Deerberg, einigen Lesern sicher aus VOX “auf- und-davon” bekannt?
WoGu: “Ja, genau. In meinem “richtigen” Leben arbeite ich für einen bekannten Industrieversicherer, dort unter anderem im Bereich Ausbildung und war auch zeitweise Dozent an der Berufsakademie in Mannheim. Einer meiner Azubis(ich war auch Betreuer seiner Bachelor Arbeit) war Christian Deerberg, den ich eines Tages darauf ansprach, ob er eigentlich mal gemodelt habe oder das vorhat, denn ich fand ihm vom Aussehen richtig klasse! Er verneinte dies und ich schlug einfach mal ein Probeshooting vor, das war 2008. Wir machten sowohl Bilder in einem Park in Frankfurt als auch im Studio in Mainz.”

BM: Wie ging es dann bei Christian weiter?
WoGu: “Ich empfahl ihm, sich in einem Internetportal für Models und Fotografen ein Profil zuzulegen. Witizgerweise schlug ich ihm das vor, hatte aber zu dem Zeitpunkt selber noch keines (lacht). Christian erstellte sich ein Profil mit unseren Bildern und wurde innerhalb von Tagen von vielen Fotografen aber auch Agenturen angeschrieben. So kam eins nach dem anderen und er landete bei seiner ersten Agentur in Frankfurt/Main. Nach ersten Erfahrungen mit dieser Agentur suchte er nach weiteren, die ihn gerne auch nahmen. Es kam der Tag, an dem er seine Ausbildung beendete und er sich für eine Karriere in der Versicherungsbranche oder als Profi Model entscheiden musste. Wir führten sehr lange und intensive Gespräche, da sich eine sehr gute und vertrauensvolle Freundschaft aufbaute,(kein Wunder, wir sind beide am 17. Juli geboren) welcher Weg der Richtige für ihn sei. Da er zu der Zeit gerade erst 23 war und ich merkte, dass sein Herz mehr für das Modeln als für die Versicherung schlug, empfahl ich ihn, sich für die Modelkarriere zu entscheiden. Dies tat er dann auch. Du kannst also sagen, ich bin der Vater seiner Model- Karriere.”

Modelscout Wolf Gust, weiss worauf es in der Modebranche ankommt!

BM: Wie kam die Idee für WOGU Scouting zustande?
WoGu: “Christian wechselte dann zu der sehr bekannten Model- Agentur KULT nach Hamburg und stellte mir hier den direkten Kontakt zum Besitzer der Agentur, Marco Cordes, her. Daraus entstand die Idee, Scouting neben meinem richtigen Beruf für diese Agentur zu machen.”

BM: Gibt es bekannte Gesichter, die es mit deiner Hilfe in der Modelbranche geschafft haben?
WoGu: “Nun, an erster Stelle ist es sicher Christian, aber auch ein Leo Eller, Sascha Burg oder ein Michéle Rötters gehören dazu.”

BM: Mit welchen Agenturen arbeitest du zusammen und wer sind deine Partner?
Nun, meine Kunden möchte ich hier verständlicherweise nicht nennen, ich kann aber sagen, dass es sich nur um namhafte Agenturen mit bestem Ruf handelt. Der Gedanke ist, dass WoGu-Scouting nicht nur aus mir besteht, sondern ich Partner suche und die teilweise schon gefunden habe. So ist eine Teamkollegin eine Freundin von mir, die im Public Relations Bereich arbeitet und gute Kontakte hat, dazu auch das richtige Gespür zum Finden neuer Talente. Ein Model, dass ich zu einer international agierenden Agentur brachte, wird im Bereich RheinMain scouten und ein guter Freund von mir wird die Bundeshauptstadt “unsicher” machen.

BM: Was sollte denn  ein Model (neben dem guten Aussehen) denn sonst noch so mitbringen?
WoGu: “Nun, neben dem sicher richtigen und wichtigem Aussehen sind objektive Kriterien wichtig, dass sind z.B. Grösse Gewicht, die Maße, aber auch sicher das Gespür und Talent, vor und mit der Kamera richtig spielen zu können. Ausdruck ist also nicht zu vergessen. Es bringt nichts, wenn jemand nur schön ist (lacht).

BM: Hätte auch ein eher kleines Model bei dir eine Chance?
Was verstehst Du unter klein? Nun, die grossen Agenturen haben schon ihre Vorstellungen von 183 bis 190cm, da die Models auch auf den Catwalk (Laufsteg) einsetzbar sein sollen. Unter 180cm wird es eigentlich schwierig, wenn nicht sogar unmöglich, ausser Du hast so ein super Gesicht und eine Personality, dass diese die fehlenden Zentimeter wettmachen. Zwischen 180 und 183 cm ist eine Grauzone, da hat man noch eine Chance, wenn alles andere stimmt.”

BM: Was hältst du von Schönheitsoperationen? Kennst du Models die hier und da nachgeholfen haben? Wie wird das in der Branche angesehen?
Puuh, ich habe auch schon eine SchönheitsOP hinter mir, zählst Du auch Entfernen von Muttermalen dazu? Nein, mal im Ernst, ich denke, dass dies mehr ein Thema im Bereich der weiblichen Models ist, aber Du hast recht, auch immer mehr Männer wollen dem Schönheitsideal, dass ihnen die Werbung vorlebt, entsprechen und legen sich dafür unters Messer oder lassen sich Botox spritzen. Mir selber ist kein männliches Model bekannt, das eine solche OP hinter sich hat, wobei ich sagen muss, dass unsere Models zwischen 18 und 30 sind, und in dieser Altersgruppe das Thema noch nicht so wichtig ist, da hängt die Haut im Allgemeinen noch nicht schlapp herunter.

BM: Drogen sind ja auch ein weitverbreitetes Phänomen, was sind deine Gedanken hierzu?
WoGu: “Ich habe selber keinen Kontakt mit Drogen bisher gehabt und bin auch Nichtraucher. Man sollte sich immer fragen, warum nimmt jemand Drogen, anstatt, sie sofort zu verteufeln. Alles hat seinen Grund, seine Ursache.”

BM: Gibt es für dich ein “perfektes Model”, wenn ja wer wäre das?
WoGu: “Oh, das ist eine interessante Frage. Meinst Du jetzt zum Vermitteln an eine Agentur? Nun, das männliche Model sollte mind. 183 cm gross sein, guten Ausdruck und tollen Body haben.
Wenn das Gesicht noch markant ist, hat es schon fast gewonnen.

BM: Jetzt ist Wiesbaden ja für jemanden der bspw. aus Hamburg kommt ein ganz schönes Stück entfernt. Wie kann man sich denn noch bei dir vorstellen?
WoGu: “Ich erkläre vielleicht, wie es bei WoGu Scouting genau abläuft, das dürfte vieler Leser dieses Interviews interessieren. Entweder wir sprechen oder schreiben ein potentielles Model an oder jemand, der meint, das Zeug dazu zu haben, schreibt uns auf info@wogu-scouting.de direkt. Wir benötigen dann aktuelle Polas, das bedeutet, nicht bearbeitete aber gut ausgeleuchtete Bilder des Gesichtes frontal und seitlich, genauso auch des freien Oberkörpers von der Seite und von Vorne.  Gut ist, wenn er uns auch die Daten wie Geburtsdatum, Grösse Gewicht, aber auch Maße nennt. Das Team schaut sich dann die Bewerbung an und wir entscheiden, ob es zu Schritt 2 kommt oder wir ablehnen müssen.”

BM: Was heisst Schritt 2?
WoGu: “Wir laden den Kandidaten zu einem Testshooting nach Mainz ein, dieses Shooting führe derzeit ich durch. Das Shooting ist für den Kandidaten kostenfrei, er muss nur seine Fahrtkosten übernehmen. Übernachtungsmöglichkeit ist im Bedarfsfall auch kostenfrei vorhanden. Das bedeutet, im Gegensatz zu anderen Scouts, scouten wir niemanden, den wir nicht selber vor der Kamera schon fotografierten. Damit können wir guten Gewissens unsere Empfehlung an die Agenturen weiterleiten und diese erleben nicht das blaue Wunder, wenn sie ihn einladen und es sich dabei herausstellt, dass er vor der Kamera nicht agieren kann oder bspw. ein arroganter Zeitgenosse ist. Mit den Bildern aus dem Shooting werden wir das Model dann unseren Agenturpartnern vorstellen; unser Vorteil ist, dass wir direkte Ansprechpartner in den Agenturen haben, die uns schnell ein Ja oder Nein durchgeben.Wenn eine Agentur das Model kennenlernen möchte, stellen wir den Kontakt her.  Das Model stellt sich also nicht mit unpassenden Bildern bei einer Agentur vor und ist auch nicht eine von dreißig Bewerbungen, die in eine Agentur täglich reinflattern. Ein Vorteil von WoGu-Scouting gegenüber Blindbewerbungen bei Agenturen!
Weiterhin geben wir den Kandidaten Tips im Umgang mit Agenturen oder Fotografen, gerne stellen wir auch Kontakt zu seriösen Fotografen, die wir persönlich kennen, her. Wir dürfen  und wollen keine Rechtsberatung durchführen, aber gern schauen wir uns auch Shooting- Vereinbarungen u.ä. an und wenn gewünscht, geben unsere Meinung dazu. Das Model wird also bei uns nicht alleine gelassen.
Es hat aber auch keinen Vertrag mit uns und es kommen auf das Model keine Kosten unsererseits zu.
Daher ist es auch möglich, mit uns Kontakt aufzunehmen, wenn man in Hamburg, Berlin, Frankfurt oder München wohnt.”

BM: Wie nimmt man mit Euch Kontakt auf, wenn man denkt, man hat das Zeug zum Model?
WoGu: Am besten per Mail und mit aussagekräftigen Bildern.

BM: Sucht Ihr auch weibliche Models?
WoGu: Derzeit beschränken wir uns auf das Scouten von männlichen Models, aber haben vor, in naher Zukunft auch weibliche Models vermitteln zu können.

Neil Boshart: Thanks! Yea well the EP has 22 tracks, 11 original, 11 covers. The criteria is based off is the fact that each of them are less than 130 seconds. We did a 7-inch EP on a “store day” promotion with 3 cover songs on it for fun. We liked the idea and wanted to do something like that again so we just came up with the idea to do a bunch of covers and originals as well. Plus we had the free time to do it cause we weren’t on the road so we’re like “yeah let’s just do it!”.

BM: But this EP is all about having fun with your influences from just punk rock?

 
Neil: Yea exactly! We just wanted to have fun with all kinds of influences though. Its not all punk rock covers that we did, but there’s a Promise Ring song in there too. It’s a good mix between original work and groups we grew up listening to – even an Orchid cover!

 
BM: Back to your recent album, Rescue. Probably the main thing I noticed from it was that this record takes more of an older harder style to it like your earlier records. Was there a reason to write harder stuff??

 
Neil: There’s no trick to it really. We just get in a room and jam out some parts that we’ve all brought to the table and it just naturally comes together into complete songs. I personally don’t have any premonition about what things sound like. If you think like that behind hand -you’ll almost always be disappointed in the end after mixing and production.

BM: Why did you name the record “Rescue”? Did this have any kind of special meaning?

 
Neil: I think the key behind that name is to be straightforward. I guess everyone can relate to that word and everyone can be rescued from something. Plus we’ve always had long titles, but this one is straight to the point and has a lot of meaning behind it.

 
BM: What’s your favorite song on the album and why?

 
Neil: Um, I like playing sacrifice and intervention..sometimes we throw it into the mix. They’re both just interesting and fun to play live!

 
BM: What inspiration do you have in the writing process? When Shane writes the lyrics it’s a lot about heartbreak and love and hardships of life…

 
Neil: Well Shane writes what he’s feeling at the time and what he’s going through. In the jam scenario, when rehearsing we really just inspire each other. Before that though, it’s just physically picking up the guitar and fiddling with it and seeing what happens haha.

 
BM: It’s ¾ through your current tour. Would you summarize how you see this tour in comparison to the previous ones? Is it any different this tour compared to others?

 
Neil: It’s different because were playing different songs from newer albums that we’re stoked about. Its different cause Germany is really coming out of its shell and coming out and seeing us. We couldn’t be more happy that our shows are selling out this time and we’ve never really had that here. We really love Germany, and we’re really happy that people are into our music here.

 
BM: But I mean, the scene here in Germany is stereotyped to be very metal yet here you guys are- a small band from outside of Toronto, Canada and have been selling out many shows on this part of the tour in Germany. There seems to be a diverse grouping of fans that come out to your shows whether it be more metal heads or 16 year old girls haha.

 
Neil: Yea exactly! It’s so great that the fans in Germany are coming out more often to enjoy the show. The girls that like the softer stuff come out. The guys that like the hard stuff come out…so you should all just come together haha.

 
BM: Do you notice a difference in the scene after being together for 12 years. Styles and genres change over the years and what was popular when I was 16 is not really much anymore. But you guys are one of the few bands of your genre that has stuck around and fans have always been supporting.

 
Neil: Haha we’re almost the only ones that survived from that era! Yea I don’t know why the other bands haven’t been doing so well or not at all and calling it quits. Maybe it’s the work effort, I dunno. I mean we work really hard man…always touring and always writing, always doing something for year and years now. You gotta have that consistency to keep the fans happy and every time you put out something new you end up gaining new fans.

 
BM: What can people expect from a Silverstein show in 2012?

 
Neil: Expect us to play a great show! Haha. We’re really tight then we play our songs. Its gonna be loud and its gonna be great and you’ll have a great time.

 
BM: What are your plans for after this tour?

 
Neil: We plan on doing some Asian stuff, Australia and New Zealand maybe. Australia is locked in for sure but we’re in the middle of finalizing the other dates and venues right now. Should be awesome!

 
BM: Do you have any funny stories to tell about this tour?

 
Neil: What happened in Budapest maybe?! Oh man, we went to a dance party at a place called Rave Cave. It was an open mic night and they had a whole setup on stage. So we got up and horribly butchered a bunch of songs cause we were all a little in the bag at that point. It was real fun! We played An American Nightmare cover with an acoustic guitar! Haha great times.

 
BM: What do you find to do between shows if you have a day off? Check out any sights?

 
Neil: Yeah! We were in Rome for the first time the other day! So we checked out the ruins and coliseum and all that good stuff. Here in Munich we’ll go have a couple big mugs at the HB house. Maybe some Augustiner Bräu too- gotta love the Munich beer! And some of us are getting up early to go to Dachau tomorrow. Should be pretty heavy but interesting at the same time. We’re stoked to be here in Munich and can’t wait to be back!

 
BM: So true! Who can ignore a good Helles when you’re visiting Bavaria for a few days! Thanks for the interview Neil and have fun on the rest of the tour!

In den 80ern und 90er Jahren feiterte Wrestling international ein absolutes Hoch. Namen wie: “Hulk Hogan”, “The Undertaker” und auch “The Rock” entstanden in dieser Zeit. Aus der deutschen Medienlandschaft war das amerikanische Wrestling nicht mehr wegzudenken. Doch urplötzlich wurde es zur Jahrtausendwende sehr ruhig in Deutschland. Kein TV Sender wollte mehr Wrestling ausstrahlen und aus der Wirtschaftskrise hat es nur ein großer Wrestlingverband geschafft und entwickelte sich zum Global Player im “Sports Entertainment”.

World Wrestling Entertainment ist ein Millionenunternehmen, welches nicht nur alleine mit Shows utopische Umsätze generiert. Mit Merchandise, Lizenzen für Pay TV, Mobilecontent und Videospiele erlebt die Industrie zurzeit ein hoch und hat über die Jahre all seine Konkurrenten aufgekauft. Auch hierzulande nimmt der Trend wieder deutlich zu und die Nachfrage stillt World Wrestling Entertainment mit mehreren Shows in Deutschland.

Am heutigen Abend fanden sich geschätzte 8000 Fans in der Arena zusammen, um ihre Helden aus Amerika zu sehen. Wie es schon in der Vergangenheit bei WWE Shows der Fall war, waren nicht alle Stars an diesem Abend zu sehen, dennoch waren mit “John Cena”, “Chris Jericho”  und “CM Punk” die bekanntesten Gesichter vertreten.

Chris Jericho, der neben seiner Tätigkeit als Wrestler auch noch erfolgreicher Sänger seiner Band FOZZY ist, teilte Burning-Music in der Pressekonferenz mit, dass er an neuen Songs arbeite und im Sommer sogar eine gemeinsame Tour mit Metallica auf dem Plan stünde, wow! Im vergangenen Jahr gab Fozzy sogar schon ein Konzert im legendären “White Trash” in Berlin.
Ebenfalls “The Truth Killings” erzählte uns, dass zum Beispiel MC Hammer einer seiner musikalischen Vorbilder ist und man gewisse Parallelen durchaus erkennen kann.

Es folgte nun also eine ca. 2,5 stündige Show mit einer kleinen Pause nach der Hälfte. Auf die große Pyro und Lightshow zu Beginn der Veranstaltung (wie man es aus den USA kennt) wurde in Berlin allerdings verzichtet, doch die Fans waren auch so schon begeistert. Ein wenig erinnerte uns das Feeling in der Arena an altrömische Gladiatorenkämpfe, allerdings wurde hier an diesem Abend niemand umgebracht, im Gegenteil: Im Gegensatz zu früher hat sich in der Kampftechnik und Inszenierung der Showkämpfe so einiges getan. Die Unterkonstruktion des Rings, der früher noch aus steinharten ungefederten Holzbrettern bestand, wurde durch einen gefederten Metall-Sprungrahmen ersetzt, auf dessen Bretter wiederum einige Matten gelegt wurden. Dass beim Wrestling nichts so ist wie es scheint, dürfte ja jedem bekannt sein. Doch gerade heute fiel besonders auf, dass Schläge und Tritte nur halbherzig ausgeführt wurden. Vielleicht mag, das aber auch daran liegen, dass die Jungs und Mädels beim täglichen Vollkontakt möglicherweise schon nach wenigen Monaten in Rente gehen müssten.

Alles in allem waren wir sensationell gut unterhalten. Highlight des Abends für uns waren die Deutschkenntnisse von “The Miz”, der die Fans via Mikrofon mit “Schnauze halten” und “Isch bin Awesome” begrüßte.  Als dann im Hauptkampf des Abends Der ultimative Hero “CM Punk” gegen Chris Jericho gewann, gab es bei den Fans kein halten mehr, aber seht selbst:

Chris Jericho mit seiner Band FOZZY:

Während ganz Deutschland darüber diskutiert, ob sich Gedichte nun reimen sollen oder nicht, hält es  die Münchner Veranstaltungsreihe Bands’n'Books lieber damit, Romane junger Autoren mit Rockmusik von Newcomern zu vermengen. Das Ganze findet jeden zweiten Mittwoch im Monat im Provisorium statt. Das bedeutet: Morgen, 11. April, präsentiert Christine Neder ihr Buch “90 Nächten, 90 Betten” und die Emergenza-Wettbewerbgewinner Rag Dolls spielen ihre Lieder.

Für zusätzlichen Charme sorgen die Schweizer, in dem sie ihre preisgekrönten Lieder unplugged spielen. Die Schwabinger Bar punktet derweil mit ausgefallener Kunst und heimeliger Atmosphäre und Christine Neder, ja, die erzählt von ihrem Selbstversuch, 90 Nächte auf 90 Betten in der Hauptstadt zu schlafen. Ganz ohne Reime.
